Weekend update

Good news – Blogger FINALLY unlocked my mission journals blog. Now I just need to decide if I wanna make it public or private…

This weekend was great! First, on Friday, I went up to Muncie to spend the evening with Rachael Linn from YSA. She was just baptized last Saturday and is super-stoked about the gospel! Yay! Anyway, somehow (I can’t remember how) we decided that we needed to go to the duck pond at BSU and feed the ducks. That evolved into dinner at Woodworth (which is a lot nicer than it was when I was there before), feeding the ducks, and watching “Bride and Prejudice.” We had a lot of fun. Rachael and I have similar personalities, which made things even more fun!

Friday night, I stayed at Robbie Turner’s house so that I wouldn’t have to drive home and then drive back up Saturday for the YSA activity. We didn’t get much time to talk because he and I both had to get up early so we crashed right away. Before the YSA activity, I went to Wal*Mart to finish my job application (still haven’t heard back from any place yet) and then went to Bracken to work on my talk. That, however, became talking to the missionaries, who were there waiting for an investigator to show up – they were smurfed, though, so they left. Finally, I ate lunch and then headed to the church for the activity.

The YSA activity was A LOT of fun! We started out by going to the food bank to do service for a couple of hours, then came back for some short spiritual discussions and some fun activities. I (kinda) learned how to crochet during the fun activities, even though I didn’t have enough time to finish. We then had an awesome taco salad dinner with ice cream for dessert. After dinner we had a talent show and then a dance. It was not only the first dance I’d been to since I got home, but it was also the first dance since my senior prom! Crazy! I was kinda nervous and awkward at first, but slowly opened up and had a good time. I did develop a pretty bad headache about an hour before the end of the dance and ended up leaving early, but I still enjoyed myself. I can’t wait for the next dance!

Then, on Sunday, I gave my homecoming talk. The topic was enduring to the end, and how I would apply things I learned on my mission to this subject. Also, I had to tie in some suggestions for recent converts on how they can endure to the end. Well, I had very little notes, a couple of talks printed from the church website, and my trusty scriptures, and was still able to turn out a 20-minute mostly improvised talk. I wasn’t too satisfied with it (I never am satisfied with my talks), but the members liked it a lot. I did almost the same thing tonight at a missionary FHE at the Hovermales’ house. The subject was on finding – I basically opened the discussion with some things I did/learned on my mission, and then we went from there. It was a good evening.

Well, I think that’s it for now. Once I make a decision on the mission blog, I’ll be sure to let everyone know.

Until next time,

~David~

Trenton R. Foust Memorial Quote of the Day: "It has a cadillac converter" - Trenton R. Foust (yes, THE Trenton R. Foust), referring to why it was okay that his truck didn't have a muffler. I asked him why he'd want to turn his truck into a Caddy - he gave me a blank stare until Todd Shaw and I explained to him that it was a CATALYTIC converter...
