The Great Mission Update: September 2007

Greetings one and all! Sorry I've slacked and skipped a few months... I hope you'll forgive me. And for those of you new to The Great Mission Update, welcome, bienvenue, bienvenidos (I hope that's spelled right), or however else you say it in your language of choice.

First and foremost, I'm still serving in Petawawa, Ontario, where I've been since May 30. My current companion is Elder Toupin, from Ogden, Utah. For those of you keeping count, that's Companion #5 from Utah, and Companion #9 total. Things are going well for us. We've been together for 2 weeks, and we've seen some amazing results! We've been talking to a lot of people and finding new people who are ready to learn! Now, a bit about some of the people we're teaching:

Jessie: She's a friend of one of the members who's visiting from the North Bay, Ontario, area. We've been teaching her for a while now. This past week, we challenged her to be baptized. She said that she wanted to be baptized, but felt that it would take her some time to get ready, so we didn't set a definite date. Plus, she goes back home (outside of the mission) next week, so we probably won't get to baptize her. But, she has friends out there that are members too, and she has a very strong desire to learn, so we'll pass her off to the missionaries over there and hopefully she'll continue to progress.

Steven Andrews: Steven is our resident "eternigator", meaning he's been meeting with the missionaries forever - 17 years, to be exact. But, he's very close to baptism. He just needs to develop a testimony and faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior. He's been on vacation for the past 3 weeks, so we haven't met with him for a while, but we're gonna try to set something up for this week.

Lindi Andrews: Lindi is Steven's daughter. We had a couple of great meetings with her. She was reading, praying, and coming to church, even when her dad was out of town. But, on Friday, she moved down to Waterloo (also out of the mission) for university. We did pass her off to the missionaries down there, and she was excited to meet with them and continue learning.

Kim: Kim is the mother of 3 young children. Elder Toupin and I tracted into her the first or second day that we were together. We taught her about the importance of the family, then made a return appointment where we taught her the Message of the Restoration. She understood it and was desirous to learn more. We're scheduled to meet with her on Wednesday.

Peggy Walsh: Peggy and her 11-year-old daughter Laurie, were found before I got here, but we didn't start meeting with Peggy until the beginning of August, then she went on holiday. But, we did have a second meeting with her this past week, and this weekend, she and her daughter came to the branch corn boil and to Church yesterday, and really enjoyed it! Plus, Peggy knows some of the members, including the Branch President, through her daughter's school. In fact, the Branch President is going to be Laurie's geography teacher!

Those are the people we're really working with right now. We do have some others, but most of them are first-time contacts that have invited us back. We're hopeful that they'll want to keep meeting with us after our first appointments with them.

Well, I think that's about it for this issue of the Great Mission Update. If any of you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to email me. I'd love to hear back from all of you!

Until next month (hopefully),

Elder David Caudill
