June 2007 Mission Update!
Hello one and all, and greetings from Petawawa, Ontario, my new home!
So, this past week, I was transferred from Cornwall, where I've been since Halloween, to Petawawa, an area about 2 hours northwest of Ottawa. It's home to a large military base and a small branch of the church. But, the good thing is, when the branch is small, that means I'm definitely gonna keep busy!
To get things started, I've gotta write about the CRAZY experiences I had on transfer day (Wednesday). First, Elder Anderberg and I were running late already because I wasn't quite ready to leave on time. Then, we went out to the car and noticed that there was a problem with the front right tire - it was bubbled on the outside and looked liable to explode at any minute. So, we called the fleet coordinator for the mission cars and he told us not to drive to Montreal, but to get it checked ASAP! We take it into the repair place, and they tell us that they can't fix it until Friday... So, we call back and get told to take it to the dealer. We find out it's gonna cost almost $200 to get things fixed at the dealer, and they can't see it until 1:00 (it's about 12:00 at this point), so we go back to the apartment for lunch. I then get a phone call telling me that I need to catch the first bus from Cornwall to Montreal instead of waiting on the car. We called the bus station and find out that the next bus was leaving in 5 minutes and then after that, not until 4:30. We then take off for the bus station, getting there about 10 minutes later, and find out that the bus was running late! So, I managed to make that bus, head to Montreal, then switch to the 3:00 bus for Ottawa. I got to Ottawa a little after 6:00 (because we got stuck in traffic in Montreal for like an hour) and then drove w/Elder Jasper up to Petawawa, stopping for dinner on the way, and arriving at about 8:30. It was quite possibly the craziest transfer day ever!
Anyway, we've had a few good appointments since I've been here. We don't have a lot of investigators, but that just means we're gonna be stepping it up and knocking on some doors this week! I'm really excited to have the opportunity to really build up an area. It's gonna be a challenge, but Elder Jasper and I are ready for it.
Sorry that this update is kinda short, but I don't have too much to write about. Next months should be longer! Oh, and if I can figure out how to get it to work, I might email some pictures in the meantime! Look forward to that!
Well, that's about it. I hope y'all have a great month and I'd love to hear from you soon!
Take care,
Elder David Caudill
