The Great Mission Update: October 2007

Greetings one and all, and welcome to another Mission Update! I hope you're excited! I know I am!

The first bit of news is that I was transferred at the beginning of the month. I am now serving in Ville-Marie Sud (South) on the Island of Montreal. I'm in the Ville-Marie (French) Ward. That's right, boys and girls, Elder Caudill is finally back in a French area! Yay!!!!! The reign of terror in Ontario has come to an end. My new companion is Elder Nelson, from Idaho. In my new area, I am a District Leader over 12 missionaries, including the Assistants to the Mission President! They wanted to be sure to throw me in deep, I guess. But, I'm excited for this transfer. It should be a lot of fun!

The next bit of amazing news is something I just found out today, like 5 minutes ago... Serenitee Cadieux, one of my investigators from Cornwall, was baptized this past week! This is amazing because when I was there, her parents didn't think she was committed enough to be baptized. Serenitee is Paula Tessier's sister (Paula was baptized right before I was transferred out of Cornwall). It's great to see that there are now 3 sisters from that family that have joined the church!

Now, for news in my current area. Honestly, things are kinda slow right now. We do have a couple of investigators that I've met. I'll talk about them in a minute. (I've gotta hurry because I only have 5 minutes) In this new area, we do a lot of contacting on the Metro (subway). It's a lot of fun but still a bit scary for me LOL. I'm just not used to it yet, but I'm sure I'll get there!

Okay, the investigators that I've met so far are Maryse Joseph and Robert (I don't know his last name). I'll start with Maryse. She's a single Haitian woman with a young son who the missionaries met a couple of months ago. She comes to church every week and really enjoys it. On Thursday, we had an appointment with her and we asked her about baptism. She told us she wasn't ready yet. We also found out that while she says she knows that what we're teaching is true, she hasn't received a spiritual witness of that fact. So, we're gonna work on that. Until she gets that spiritual witness, she won't progress much further. But, she's an amazing lady, and her son loves us, so hopefully all will work out!

Robert has been investigating the church for about 2 years now, I think. He's in the same boat. He doesn't have any sort of spiritual conviction of the things we teach. We committed him yesterday to pray before he reads from the Book of Mormon (which he reads every night) and ask God if it's true. He accepted the commitment.

Well, I've gotta go. Thanks to all of you for your support! You're amazing!

Elder David Caudill
