people disgust me

I can't believe they even have to mention this...

Right now on NBC news, they're doing a story that explains the reason most of the people seen in the videos of looting from New Orleans are black is because 67% of the people there are African-American. Apparently, people feel that the reason for rampant looting is because of race, class, or whatever. I just want to say right now that while you and I might say that we're better than that and we would never break into a store and take advantage of the lack of order, we have NO IDEA AT ALL what we would actually do if we were in that situation. It has nothing to do with race, class, or anything else like that. I think it's (for the most part) basic survival instinct. The citizens of New Orleans have been without food, water, and decent shelter since Monday. How do you expect them to react???

I've been watching the news today more than I have the past few days, and I'll admit that the images have made me feel sick to my stomach. There's no way I can even begin to imagine that kind of damage or how that must feel. I wish I could help in some way, but I don't know what to do.

I'll leave you with this... If there's ANYTHING you think you can do to help the people affected by Hurrican Katrina, please contact the Red Cross or someone. Most of the TV networks have links to charity websites on their own websites. DO WHAT YOU CAN!!!

Until next time,

~David~

Hello I am visiting blogs not known. Some years ago it rained to much in Venezuela and died many people... I understand reason why they are happening...
it is possible that the people who remained catched in New Orleans
were in poor majority... The tragedy affects first a the poverty...

I'm sorry... A shared in common greeting... Good bye

Thanks for pointing out something I neglected to mention. I agree that the people that are taking necessities from the abandoned stores is a survival instinct. However, the people breaking into electronics stores or whereever to steal things that are luxury items, or the person they showed on NBC in Wal*Mart with a shopping cart full of shoes (which I doubt were all going to go to charitable use), is wrong.

They just said on Dateline NBC that the "opportunistic looting" has stopped for the most part, so I guess it might not even be an issue any more.

David!

I just wanted to throw in that I agree with your comment about not knowing until you're there... our church group went to Biloxi, Mississippi, last Sunday... we were there for one day, and I could barely take seeing it. I couldn't even imagine having to live there. We passed out food, clothes, water, kid's toys, etc... and heard so many stories that you wouldn't even believe. I just want to throw out that yeah, you don't know until you've been there... no news station can do it justice. And if any of you want to donate to something where you KNOW the food etc will go DIRECTLY to the people, (since God bless the red cross, they're only feeding the crews that are fixing the cities right now, not the people), then I'll let you know the next time our church group goes and we will personally take your money to buy them supplies or whatever you specify, and give those items directly to the people who need them most.
